SEATTLE - O'Dea High School Senior Xavier Johnson Mitchell Talks Playoffs, Leadership, and Goals Beyond High School Track


As the playoffs approach, O'Dea High School senior Johnson Mitchell focuses on maintaining his strong mentality and holding himself accountable. Despite a hamstring injury, he has his head held high and is determined to give it his all in his final year of high school track.


When asked about his goals for the playoffs, Johnson Mitchell expressed his desire to make metros and give it his all as an individual athlete. However, he also recognizes the importance of being a leader and encouraging his teammates to perform at their best. "A little compliment or a few kind words can help them feel better instantly," he says.


Johnson Mitchell's previous years' performances have prepared him for this year's playoffs, as he has grown stronger and faster over time. He has learned to dedicate himself to the sport and give it everything he has left, as he may never have the chance to play again.


This year, Johnson Mitchell has faced setbacks such as his hamstring injury and a teammate's injury. However, he believes in his teammates and their depth and is looking forward to seeing the potential of the younger runners on the team.


Teamwork and camaraderie are crucial for success in track, especially during the playoffs. Johnson Mitchell recognizes the importance of having a strong bond with his teammates, both on and off the track. "It really helps us do better in our meets because our bond pushes us to do better," he says.


Looking ahead, Johnson Mitchell has aspirations beyond high school track. He has been considering attending Oregon State and has already gone on a few visits. With his mother's support, he is feeling confident about his decision. He hopes that his performance in the playoffs will contribute to his goals beyond high school track and help him achieve his dreams.


Additionally, it's great to know that Johnson Mitchell enjoys Yoshino's as one of his favorite lunch spots. He has a go-to dish called O'Dea Half & Half, which is half rice, half noodles topped with chicken. It's fantastic to see him balancing his athletic commitments with enjoying some delicious food from his favorite spot.


As Johnson Mitchell and his team head into the playoffs, they will be relying on his leadership and the team's camaraderie to perform at their best. With his strong mentality and dedication to the sport, Johnson Mitchell is sure to make a lasting impact on the O'Dea High School track team.
