Unmovable Object takes on an Unstoppable Force

Declan Shea-McMahon

O'Dea will have their hands full with Mt. Tahoma's explosive offense. How can the Irish defense contain it in this quarterfinal contest?

O'Dea has consistently been in the playoffs over the course of the last 40 years and is a heavy favorite in this matchup. Mt. Tahoma is hoping to change that narrative using their star junior running back Felix Diaz. Last year was the first time in 39 years Mt. Tahoma made the state playoffs, getting knocked out by eventual runner-up Yelm 29-12 in the quarterfinals.

With a very powerful running attack they will be very difficult to stop.

"The key is to disrupt their rhythm…controlling the gaps and forcing them to rely on plays outside of their comfort zone," said Irish senior offensive tackle Jackson Childs.

Mt. Tahoma is currently the lowest seeded team remaining in the playoffs coming off their recent upset against undefeated Decatur 23-21 in an impressive showing. They hope to do the same at Memorial Stadium this Friday night.

O'Dea however is coming off a blowout victory against Mercer Island 50-7 adding an 8th win on the season with a 20+ point differential. They hope to continue this trend on Friday. The Irish can't overlook this game, especially knowing your rivels Eastside Catholic are looming,

"By treating this game with the same intensity as a faceless opponent, we can make sure this game isn't a trap game," said Childs.

The winner of this matchup will take on the winner of Lincoln of Tacoma and Eastside Catholic on Saturday the 30th.
