SEATTLE- As the final buzzer rung through the air, the O'Dea Fighting Irish rushed the field, shouting in celebration. They had just beat Seattle Prep in a fierce lacrosse match for the state title. All the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears they had were for this moment. They were on top of the world, with no one in sight to stop them.Â
 Â
That was almost three years ago. In the last few seasons, O'Dea has faced off against Seattle Prep three separate times for the state title. And for the last two seasons, they lost to them and had finished in second place.Â
 Â
This year, however, things are looking different. With a strong returning class, the team has been working hard to become state champions once again.Â
 Â
"The team is extremely excited and has a large chip on its shoulder. Losing to Prep twice consecutively in the state championship has given us more fuel than imaginable," said senior attacker Dylan Smith.Â
Â
Key Players And Their Strengths:Â
 Â
Although multiple powerhouse players graduated, such as Oscar Clark, Grayson Bronfield, and Kaleb Carr, there is large senior class that can lead the team. Â
 Â
"Some important seniors are going to be Miles and Matteo Tropea, Jacob Newman, and [me] as people that have the most experience playing on varsity and command respect from those younger to fill the gaps left from our previous captains," said senior defender Finn Evans.Â
  Â
One of the strengths of the team this year is their ability to play fast. With many offensive players in the roster, such as senior attacker Nathan Olmsted and junior Patrick Mirkin, the Irish are able to play with momentum and build up early leads. Â
 Â
"Our attack and faceoffs are very strong only losing one starter in both position groups,"Â said Evans.Â
Â
In addition to this, the Irish are very synchronized with each other. With many of the players having been part of the sport for many years, they have built strong bonds that help them on and off the field. This collectively boosts their performance, as everyone is committed to the same goals as part of the O’Dea Brotherhood.Â
Â
"We have no doubts that this group will do what it takes to win at the highest level... there is a new hunger and drive to succeed within [the] team that is really inspiring to be a part of," exclaimed senior goalie Jacob Newman.Â
Â
Â
Team WeaknessesÂ
 Â
The team is working to improve their defense this year and avoiding building up penalties. Although they have one of the best goalies in the state, senior Jacob Newman, they are still looking to improve their defensive side of the field. Â
 Â
"A lot of senior midfielders and defenders graduated last year. With that being said, that allows some new guys to step up and carve out bigger roles for themselves on this year's team," said senior midfielder Matteo Tropea.Â
 Â
Some players are currently struggling with some early-season injuries as well, with Evans and senior Noah Bissmeyer both having torn ACLs and recovering. However, this just means that newer players have a chance to prove themselves. Â
 Â
"[We] are looking forward to some of the younger midfielders [stepping] up. We have a great group of juniors and sophomores who will have larger roles this year," said senior attacker Miles Tropea.Â
 Â
 Â
ConclusionÂ
 Â
Three years later, the seniors who had a taste of victory back in freshmen year once again prepare for their rivalry match. With all of their training and preparation, they are ready for whatever comes their way. The road to the championship game won't be easy, but the players are confident in their abilities and are awaiting their first match of the season. Â
