SEATTLE – O’Dea High School faced off against the Bishop Blanchet Bears this past Friday, September 8th, 2023, at Blanchet High School and won 51-21. The game had standout performances by many players, especially O’Dea senior running back Jason Brown who finished with 4 touchdowns and O’Dea senior quarterback Antone Araujo with 100+ passing yards.
“It was a mental struggle knowing where everyone was at a time,” said senior receiver and Safety Rollis Talalemotu.
The team had their struggles, especially with many new players playing at new positions, the team had to work together to figure out how to adapt to these changes. But the team was able to work together and win this game by 30 points.
Running back Brown had 4 touchdowns with 210 rushing yards. He was a vital part in securing the win for the Irish. He helped score over 2/3rd of the Irish’s total points. Brown was assisted by a great offensive line.
“The guys did their jobs and that really helped us,” Talalemotu said.
With starting quarterback Luke D’Anna still out from his current injury, the Irish had to continue to play with this new lineup that they hadn’t been practicing with. The players were still able to do their part to help the team out.
Many players were preparing for the game with all the practice that they had been doing the past week and getting ready to play with a new quarterback while also continuing their great play styles.
With the few but important changes that have happened this season, the Irish have found their way to overcome these obstacles and have managed to go 2-0 so far this season.
The Irish will play Rainier Beach at Memorial Stadium this upcoming Friday, September 15th hoping to continue their winning streak and to see more improvement from their players.
