In the fast paced environment of downtown Seattle, there is a small, hidden bakery/cafe. That would be Sugar Bakery & Cafe. The inconspicuous little place is located on Madison St. in the heart of downtown. What makes the place not very well known is that they don't advertise, they're not a chain, and they're surrounded by other shops and restaurants. Most people don't even know it exists because it doesn't pop out like any other restaurant or store. Most students at O'Dea don't even know that there was a bakery on Madison. We were curious, so we went and tried a few of their goods. We tried the butter croissant and the bacon chocolate chip cookie.
The butter croissant tasted pretty basic, nothing special to it. It was pretty flakey, but that's just normal for croissants. This croissant was pretty dry, but not super dry to where it wasn't good.
The bacon chocolate chip cookie. What a combo. Nothing like we have ever seen before. We never expected to see bacon, on a cookie...ever. We were not expecting it to be good... and we were right. The combo of bacon, chocolate, and cookie was horrendous. The cookie by itself excluding the toppings were very good. It was baked perfectly with a good consistency, though it was a unique flavor.
The Sugar Bakery & Cafe doesn't get the recognition it deserves. However, this is only among O'Dea students. We talked to the employees there, and they said they make good business from those who work at the hospital, are patients there, or people who just work or are passing nearby. Either way, even though most O'Dea students aren't aware of it's existence, it still has some very interesting food/products.
