SEATTLE -- The Fighting Irish understand the importance of focus, as it was a factor that cost them the season last year, and they are determined not to repeat last year's tragedy.
This was evident on Friday the 12th at Mickey Nash Field, as the Irish came out strong with a 30-7 lead at halftime.
Seniors Jason Brown and Christian Winn led the team, scoring a combined total of 36 points throughout the entire game.
Sophomore linebacker King Allah emphasized the significance of Brown's first rushing touchdown, saying, "JB's first touchdown set the tone for the game and got everyone amped up and ready to play."
While Blanchet is not typically a highly anticipated opponent for the Irish, every game this year presents an opportunity to better prepare for tougher opponents.
The Irish performed exceptionally well on Friday night, excelling in both the running, and passing game, as well as on defense. Everything was clicking. There was no indication that the Irish were slowing down or allowing Blanchet into the game.
However, a couple of lapses in focus ultimately allowed the Bears to score a few touchdowns.
Allah addressed this lack of focus after the game, stating, "We discussed the lack of focus in the locker room, which allowed us to regain the lead in the second half."
The game concluded with another victory for the Irish, with a score of 51-21. The Irish aim to carry this discipline into next week's game against Rainier Beach at Memorial Stadium.
