When you put two undefeated football teams against each other only one can come out on top.
Undefeated O'Dea played undefeated Mercer Island in a much anticipated matchup. The Irish ended the Islanders' season last Friday night at Memorial Stadium, winning by a score of 50-7.
Not only has O'Dea controlled every game this season but their goal is to win every play.
"We are able be dominant because relentless energy and aggression during every play is something that we strive to do every game," said senior linebacker King Allah.
In the first quarter senior Sage Salopek got the Irish momentum going with a 92 yard punt return touchdown. Defensively sophomore Keelan Thomas stepped up with 2 sacks as well as the Nonu brothers, junior Jeremiah and sophomore Tevita, both getting a sack of their own.
In the next quarter O'Dea gave Mercer Island no hope, scoring 35 points in the quarter alone. That was a strong second quarter that put the game out of reach for the Islanders.
"In the second quarter, our offense capitalized on explosive plays, big runs and quick passes to rack up points. The offense took advantage of turnovers, converting them into quick touchdowns. This rapid series of events created a momentum shift that led to a high-scoring quarter," said senior offensive tackle Joseph Jackson.
There were many key players this game such as junior running back Uriah Stringfield and senior running back Malik Dawson with 2 rushing TDs apiece. A couple other key players were senior defensive back Davonn Abaga and junior quarterback Hutton Leverett.
O'Dea closed the game out with 14 more points in the second half.
This week the Irish play Mount Tahoma at 7pm on Friday evening. Can they keep up the momentum they have?
