SEATTLE – On a hot summer’s day, Simon Olech can be found on the lake waiting for a fish to bite the hook. Olech has been fishing all his life and has continued that throughout his years at high school.

Unlike most people who would have fished for fun, he has been participating in teams and competitions over the past years. Olech has never lost in any of the tournaments that he has participated in.

“I think I'm just going to wait until college and then join the best fishing team and compete around the country if I can," Olech says in his plans for next year.

Olech is hopeful to continue fishing when he goes off to college next year. He is going to search for any bass fishing clubs that the school offers and join whichever one can allow him to travel across the country while doing what he loves.

"I may join like a couple of private tournaments with some of my friends from the club," Simon says.

Olech’s biggest catch has been a 5.2-pound fish which for the state of Washington, is a very good catch. He is hopeful that by going to a different part of the country next year for college, he will be able to get a new personal record for himself.

"Out of all the fish I've caught, I like fishing for bass the most because there's like a lot of different strategies you can use and a lot of different sorts of methods to catching the best and there are different species like smallmouth and largemouth.”

Olech has enjoyed catching all fish, but bass has been his favorite over the years. He enjoys that there are so many different types of bass to catch, and he loves being able to catch them.

Olech has been awarded the Angler of the Year award by 2022, and over the years he has won a total of 5 awards.

"I may join like a couple of private tournaments with some of my friends from the club," Simon says.

Olech enjoys going to tournaments with his friends, and the friendships that he has made have made fishing so much more enjoyable for him.
