Harmony of Heroes: O'Dea's Resounding Triumph Over Seattle Prep 68-61

Updated: Jan 16

In a spellbinding clash of titans on the hardwood, Odea High School meticulously orchestrated a symphony of skill and determination, ultimately triumphing over the formidable Seattle Prep in a gripping basketball showdown last Tuesday. The Fighting Irish, entering the game with a 2-1 record and a relatively youthful squad, aimed to rebound from a previous loss to Rainer Beach High School, understanding the significance of this match for team morale.

Despite a somewhat sluggish start, the game remained tightly contested heading into halftime. Senior forward Malcolm Clark reflected on the halftime atmosphere, emphasizing,

"During halftime, the energy heading into the locker room wasn't very high, even though we were still up. Noel, BJ, and I helped remind the team that this was the time to make things right and to smile. We should come out of this half and this locker room with a smile on our faces because we all know that we can play better and we know how to play better. This second half of the game was our chance to correct all the mistakes we have made individually and as a team."

This senior leadership spurred the Fighting Irish on a decisive run in the third quarter, establishing a lead going into the fourth quarter that effectively sealed the game. One of the standout performers was the aforementioned Clark, who emerged as a defensive force, dominated the boards, and made solid offensive contributions. Reflecting on his growth, Clark shared,

"Playing high school basketball for four years has made me a better player, and I have improved since my freshman year. I had to learn how to play a role and become a smarter player to get on the court. It has made me a better, smarter player for games like against Seattle Prep."

Another key standout was sophomore Brian Webster, who notched an impressive 24 points on 9/14 shooting, including four three-pointers. Over the past three contests, Webster has averaged over 20 points per game, solidifying his position as a promising young star for the team.

Despite losing some key pieces entering the year, the Irish appear to be a promising squad under the guidance of experienced coach Coach Kerr.

“We have some guys this year, even though they are young, they are putting in the work, and with us seniors there to guide them, we want nothing less than a state championship.”Looking ahead, the Fighting Irish eagerly anticipate the Curtis Winter Classic, with tip-off scheduled for 8:30 pm at Curtis High School. As the team continues its journey toward a state title, the community is encouraged to come out and support. See you there, and go Irish!
