SEATTLE - With the kick start to winter sports, O’Dea has had a different line up of athletics. One of which being wrestling.
On December 4th the Irish went up against Blanchet, Cleveland, and Franklin. The Irish won all three matches with scores of 69-12 vs. Blanchet, 51-30 vs. Cleveland, and 66-18 vs. Franklin.
The team had a tournament the Saturday prior to this event and helped them get ready for this.
During the event and especially when their teammates were on the mats, the guys were cheering as loud as they could to help the team feel the brotherhood.
“One thing I saw about how the meet went was that our team may not be the loudest all the time but during the tough times where our teammates need it most like when they are about to get pinned or about to get a pin we get loud and encourage them as much as we can,” says Nguyen.
The team has been working very hard over the past few weeks as they have had multiple tournaments, morning practices multiple times a week, and dual matches almost 2 times a week.
With all the hard work that they have been putting into this season, it is great to see all of the work paying off.
When talking about the morning practices it is shown that the team really cares about this season coming up and are ready to support each other and helps them grow and become better wrestlers.
“This shows their commitment to the team, despite having to go home around like 11 and going straight into doing homework after showering and probably going to sleep around 12 just to wake up at 430 for morning practice shows the discipline and commitment they have for the sport and the team,” says Nguyen.
Nguyen has wrestled for years now and is excited to continue to wrester for O’Dea for one last season.
As of now the Irish wrestling team has a small break from their meets as they go into the end of 2023. They will have two weeks of practices before going back into the new year.
They have had a great season as of now and will be able to have a nice break to get better and stronger, and to be able to get ready for the rest of the season.
