SEATTLE – On the start of the first December weekend, Friday, December 1st, to kickstart O’Dea High School’s winter sport Basketball, O’Dea High School beat West Seattle High School sixty-seven to fifty. The game took place at West Seattle’s gym in West Seattle.
The Fighting Irish of O’Dea were strong out of the gates leading the Wildcats of West Seattle through every quarter of the game on a leash to the final whistle in the 4th quarter at the end of the game.
With this fresh victory, O’Dea upgrades its start of the season to a record of one, zero.
Within the game, O’Dea High School gained a massive thirty-six rebounds to West Seattle’s twenty-nine. O’Dea also led in assists, seventeen to six. Furthermore, O’Dea also led West Seattle in steals, doubling their five with ten.
The O'Dea basketball team captain, Malcolm Clark an O’Dea senior, stated that “the team was more than proficient, and the defense was solid.”
Not only did Clark lead the team in blocks, and that’s a major role for him on the team, but in that game, he also was working on his personal goals of “switching to an attacking mindset from outside the paint to the rim.”
O’Dea has a long calendar of challenging teams ahead in their winter season of 2023 and 2024, including Garfield, Rainer Beach, and Nathan Hale.
“We are focused on winning state, like any O’Dea team, but we think the state championship is possible this year.” Stated Clark about the team’s performance after their game against West Seattle High School.
“The team to lock in against West Seattle, we rigorously watched film, listened to hype music, and got ready as a team in the locker room.” Said Patrick Galvin, an O’Dea senior about the team’s connection and bond from their O’Dea brotherhood.
The O’Dea team this year, with their victory over West Seattle, looks to capitalize on their state championship loss from last year’s season.
The O’Dea brotherhood gives them the strength to continue to pursue the championship and all together the team is excited about this upcoming season.
