O'Dea baseball has a legendary start to a possible legendary season!

SEATTLE- The O’Dea Fighting Irish have hit all the bases to start the 2024 season. With a explosive start staying undefeated throughout their first 12 games. A welcome difference from their 2023 season where they went five for eleven to start.  However, this year The fighting Irish are on track to be the number one team in the state and make a run for state champions.

the Irish have dominated all over the field in almost all their games.  Winning six games by over eight points and winning seven games without the opposing team scoring a single run.

No small part of the team’s success throughout the first part of their season is due to powerhouse senior Isaiah Nolan.

Nolan has seen it all, being a part of the varsity sense his freshman year and with all his experience he is making his presence known more than ever. When off the plate he plays, but he has become one of the most constant batters for the Irish this season! Throughout the team’s first thirteen games his batting average is over .510 and has over 20 runs scored. Nolah already has 15 stolen bases and is looking to claim the single season record this season after tying the record in as a junior with 24.

This is one of the most experienced teams the state has ever seen with 14 seniors on the team. With seven seniors taking seven out of the nine starting spots. Along with this Almost the whole team have seen the ups and downs of previous years and are working hard to keep their team on top.

However, The pitcher’s mound is one of the few spots where seniors share the spotlight. The O’Dea pitching core is tearing it up, with two major names being junior Quincy Brown, and senior Patrick Galvin. Both are committed to play Division one baseball and are only looking better as the season progresses.

Galvin has only played in seven of the teams 13 games after battling through some injuries leading up to the start of the season, but already has 17 strikeouts.

“I’m in stride right now and I’m just trying to compete” he says.

Unfortunately, the perfect season could not last and in their 13th game the Irish lost by one run in the last inning to Lake Side high school.

In an interview Galvin says that “You don’t really know what its like to win, until you lose”.

He goes on to say how in some ways it was good to lose and feel the pain of losing before the big games come around, and how some pressure has been relieved from the team to continue their perfect season.

The O’Dea baseball team is flying high and aims to keep their great season going. It is still early in the season and the biggest games have yet to come, but the Irish are more confident that ever in their goals to claim the title of state champions.
