SEATTLE- As the dust settles on the track and the sounds of the cheering fans filling the stadium, the midpoint of the track season offers a moment of reflection and anticipation. Cassius Sanders, who amid his training and competitive meets, paused to share his journey thus far.

Sanders has been a crucial part of the O’Dea track & field team and is always consistently striding to be a better runner.

Sanders runs the 400 meter and is one of the best in the school, and he is always looking to build off of his previous meets, to improve his times.

Sanders greatest qualities as a runner is his endurance and he is able to control his stamina to finish ahead off all the other runners at the end of the event.

Sander’s finds running shorter events harder for him, but longer events come easier for him. he seemed to of found his perfect event.

Sanders stated, “My strongest event is the 400. This is because I am more of a sprinter than a distance runner, but I'm better at the longer events than the shorter sprints so 400 is a good middle ground.”

Some highlights of Sanders' season was the invitations he received that he got to run at. In addition to running at the events, there were other experiences that he enjoyed.

Sanders said, “It was always cool to watch others run especially when they're super-fast.”

Sanders is very familiar with one of the highly ranked runners in the state, his brother Seku. Seku, is already committed to Seattle University to run track, and he does loads of events for O’Dea. The two Sanders brother practice, and each push each other to help them both run faster and get better times.

During the upcoming offseason before cross country starts up Sanders looks to improve his speed and endurance even more. He might need to be called up to longer events with some senior distance runners graduating, so it's crucial for him to work on his game and be ready for the challenge next season.

“I’m looking to increase my speed and endurance.”

Sanders looks to finish off the season strong and improve his running times at Metros and state meets, to help his team.
