Meet the Yearbook Staff: Ryan Berta

Updated: 3 days ago

by Owen Livingston

Sprinting down the sideline on a crisp fall afternoon at O'Dea’s soccer field, Ryan Berta is everywhere. Fueled by academic excellence and competitive spirit, Ryan, an athlete from West Seattle, brings great energy to O'Dea’s soccer field, excelling in many positions and drawing strength from his cross-country training and the school’s competitive spirit. He calls himself a "dynamic player" who can adapt to different roles on the field. Whether he’s playing as a winger, midfielder, or defender, Ryan performs well in any position. His time in cross country during the fall builds his stamina, helping him stay ready to give his best for the team.

Growing up in West Seattle, Ryan’s love for soccer and sports came naturally. He feels that O'Dea’s strong sports culture has pushed him to be even more competitive. His choice to attend O'Dea is also personal, as his older brother Zach went to the same school, making Ryan a legacy student. Looking back at his time at O'Dea, Ryan describes it as “a place where friendships are made.” He’s proud to follow in his brother’s footsteps and appreciates the school’s strong focus on both academics and athletics, embracing all the opportunities and challenges that come his way. Ryan credits much of his athletic success to the strong support and encouragement from his parents. From a young age, they always pushed him to work hard and strive for excellence on the field. Their belief in his potential motivated him to constantly improve and never settle for less. Ryan believes this drive, instilled by his parents, has made him a stronger and more determined athlete today.
