Kingston Fotualii steps into new role with the Irish

Updated: Oct 11, 2024

SEATTLE-In recent history the captains of the Irish have all been seniors. That is until junior guard Kingston Fotualii took lead of the Irish. His recent captaincy of the Fighting Irish has turned a lot of heads about if he has what it takes to lead this team to a championship in December.

Fotualii leads by setting the example.

"I know just giving my all and being a team player and not just being selfish, doing whatever needs to be done to win."

Fotualii started playing football at the age of 6 and quickly became passionate for the game through the bonds and connections with people he has met.

Fotualii went on to start as a freshman on varsity racking up pancakes at O'Dea playing right guard. His consistent play would allow him to start his sophomore and junior year.

During spring ball going into his junior year Fotualii continued to step up and lead by example by doing the little things during practice and team camp, to make sure his team was ready for the fall.

He knows his new role and the expectations behind it.

"It motivates me to be better on and off the field… and, you know, be the best person I can be for the team."

His quiet effort would get him voted by his teammates to be a captain going into his junior year, something almost unheard of.

This has allowed him to grow as a person.

"It's helped with me with being more responsible and just help me gain confidence."

The past two seasons O'Dea has failed to reach the State championship falling to Eastside and Bellevue in back to back years.

He is determined to get over the hump as a team.

"We got to be one team and one sound."

Individually he knows he plays a big part.

"I know just giving my all and being a team player and not being selfish, doing whatever needs to be done to win."

Fotualii will once again lead the Irish on the field this Friday when #2 O'Dea (4-0) hosts Blanchet (0-4) at West Seattle Stadium. He hopes this is the next step towards a championship.
