Kai Holec's inspiring words as the Irish prepare to make their final push

An interview with senior captain Kai Holec about his views on the season so far. As well as his thoughts on how the season will progress coming off an 8-0 regular season.

The O'Dea Fighting Irish football team has been a force to be reckoned with this season, boasting an impressive 8-0 record that has placed them squarely in the spotlight. O’Dea has not only been winning but dominating on the gridiron. As they march towards the playoffs, their goal is clear, to win the state title.

In the words of senior captain Kai Holec, "I think a smaller team goal for the playoffs is to go and win games by at least 21, hopefully every game. A big one obviously is to win it all, we have the team this year and need to get it done." Holec's statement reflects the team's commitment to excellence and their determination to set high standards for themselves.

The Fighting Irish's remarkable 8-0 record not only speaks to their exceptional skill and teamwork but also to their consistency. This season, they have never been on the losing side of the score, a story told by their resilience and discipline. This statistic is particularly impressive, especially playing against highly offensive programs such as Eastside Catholic and Garfield.

Holec emphasizes, "I think for me I just want a couple more stickers to get before the season ends." The stickers he's referring to are often awarded to players as a symbol of their achievements. Playing well and achieving certain goals to earn more stickers is a representation of their success. This fuels the team's drive to secure wins with a comfortable lead. It helps the team compete not only against the other team but with themselves. Trying to beat their previous numbers and add to their helmets.

Continually, Holec's vision for the underclassmen is inspiring. He wants to set an example for them, demonstrating the hard work and dedication required to reach the team's current level of success. By aiming high and striving to dominate their opponents, the senior captain is imparting valuable lessons to the younger members of the team, continuing to the next coming seasons.

Holec acknowledges, "Our team's biggest challenge is going to be our mental mistakes, if we don't make mistakes, no one can beat us, in my opinion." Here, he recognizes the importance of maintaining focus through the whole game. It's the mental strength of the players that will ensure their undefeated streak continues.

The Fighting Irish's infamous training method holds a special place in their journey as well. Holec states, "I think the best-suited part of O'Dea football is Cherry Hill, it shows the uphill battle and all of the struggle and work we have to put in to win." Cherry Hill embodies the team's dedication to the game, and the challenges they face as a reminder of the effort to be victorious. It's an experience unique to O’Dea, showing the physical and mental tenacity demanded by the sport.

Holec concludes, "It's really something other sports don't get to experience." The Fighting Irish are well aware of the sacrifices and determination that set them apart, and they carry this unique perspective into every game.

As the O'Dea Fighting Irish look to add to their winning streak, they stand as a staple of the strength of dedication, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence. With the guidance of leaders like Kai Holec and their commitment to dominating the competition.
