SEATTLE- The 2023 fall sports season has been hot for the O’Dea fighting Irish so far this year, but especially the golf team. After losing Seniors Brady Foster, Bryce Dunbar, and Brady Anderson the Irish look to lean on the reload side of the program rather than the rebuild side after having a slow start to the season being 1-2-1.
Typically, you have a older group of guys to count on for varsity sports in Washington but not here! Junior Patrick (Paddy) Mahar has been all work this season being a major contributor to the scoring process for the Irish. Mahar was a part of the varsity group last year that was led by three seniors that evidently went on to state.
Mahar has been feeling confident lately.
“Ya, I feel great on the course whenever I’m out there, it has taken some grinding, but the course feels like a place I deserve to be” also “Whenever I’m on the green it feels just like home” Mahar added. Mahar loves to be out on the course with his brothers competing for his school.
The off season can be a huge impact for development in any sport but for Mahar “Ya, I worked hard this off-season playing lots of golf this spring and summer, and it really pushed my game to another level, it just hits home whenever I go out there and trust all the work I have put in” Mahar added. The young golfer also took an unofficial visit to Washington State University this summer “ I really enjoyed the campus and the course they have in pullman, if I put in enough work I think I can get there for sure.” We could potentially see Mahar at the next level if he keeps grinding.
With the season almost Hitting the Mid-Way point Mahar and the rest if the gold team looks to finish strong, even though they have gotten off to a slow start. Mahar not being a Senior “Even though I’m not a senior I still need to lead out there, if I do that better we will definitely have a more likely chance of winning more matches.” Its good to hear a area of work for Mahar that he needs to improve on. Mahar will be ready and locked in for the rest of the season to come.
