Wing looks on supporting the JV and Varsity runners while he is injured

SEATTLE- Henry Wing is poised for a remarkable season with O’Dea’s cross country team this year. His journey to this point has been marked by adversity, particularly the challenging season he endured last year due to an unfortunate torn hamstring injury that initially limited him to practicing only. However, Wing's determination and dedication shone through as he overcame this setback through relentless summer training and a renewed focus on stretching.

“I do not think I was stretching enough and took the importance of stretching too lightly,” Wing admitted.

With a newfound emphasis on self-care, Henry has made nutrition and sleep integral components of his daily regimen. He diligently ensures he gets a minimum of eight hours of sleep each night and maintains a diet centered around vegetables and proteins.

Another notable shift in Henry's approach has been his perspective on races. His global adventures have granted him the opportunity to immerse himself in various cultures, explore different trails, and traverse diverse landscapes. These experiences have not only broadened his horizons but have also helped him identify the most suitable locations for his training.

“I feel like traveling around the world has helped, and running in natural environments makes the run more interesting and enjoyable than if I were running on a track.”

Henry's readiness for the upcoming season is palpable, and he views it as a golden opportunity to demonstrate his growth as an athlete following his injury, aiming to establish himself as one of O’Dea Cross Country's premier runners.

Regarding the team's goals for the year, Henry is optimistic about their potential to surpass last year's performance. He firmly believes that fostering the development of younger runners and cultivating leadership among the more experienced ones are vital elements for their success this season.

“We have a fast team this year, and although we may have lost some key members, our runners keep getting faster.”

As enthusiasts of the Fighting Irish, keep a keen eye on Junior Henry Wing. The team's approach to this season is fueled by a unique hunger and tenacity that set them apart from previous years' squads.
