Grant Williams Westside Warrior on playing through Wrist
By: Alec Olson
Grant Williams O’Dea, a sophomore football and soccer player had a promising summer camp for O’Dea’s football team trying to break the Junior Varsity shackles and make it onto the first team and be a second-string rotational safety. But Williams' football dreams would have to change after he broke his left wrist skating over the summer.
William talks about how since he broke his wrist, he can't do all the drills and all the excises he wants to be doing but Williams is still dedicated to help the team in any way he can.
“I kept my mindset the same after hurting my wrist, but I had to adapt and change to how I would help the team.” Williams wants to keep on helping the team but knows his roles have to be limited.
Williams goes on to talk (or yap) about later in the interview about how he thinks his injury will effect him later in his football career. “I think injuring my wrist will help me come back a better player.” said Williams. “Since I am used to playing without the abilities of my wrist, once I get it back, I will be able to be stronger.” Williams is adamant about he wants to impact the team even with his injury.
Williams is still lifting running and doing everything else all the other players are doing just his reps in practice and varsity game time would have to take a knock.
Since Williams is also a talented soccer player he is looking to still stay in shape for the Spring and help the Irish in their soccer season as well. Williams plays on the left wing and is also fighting for a varsity spot in soccer as well.
Williams also talks about how being an underclassman and practicing with all O'Dea's talented upperclassmen and future stars, Williams reflects on the freshmen and sophomores use of learning from them.
“I think a lot of the underclassmen soak up the knowledge very well.” Learning the things the upperclassmen teach them will not only help them this year but will help them when they are upperclassmen when they are teaching the younger ones for years fourth.
Williams is looking for a monster Junior season for the Irish, filled with no injuries or setbacks.
