SEATTLE - Over the years, football has had a big impact on Jack Donovan’s time at O’Dea. Starting high school online during the fall of 2020 and having only football to meet and socialize with his new classmates, football was critical to Donovan's social life and much more.
Donovan has been very vocal. “Some of my closest friends I met because of freshman football.”
Donovan made a lot of great friendships throughout his time playing football at O’Dea. Many of his friendships continued to be very strong even 3 years later.
“Meeting people at practice, it’s a different way of interacting with people, and I think that just amplifies the relationship,” Donovan states.
The bonds that Donovan made throughout this first year of football made such a big impact on his time at O’Dea. It helped him build his strongest friends, and really helped Jack see the brotherhood that O’Dea is widely known for.
Throughout the next 3 years, Donovan continued to participate in football in the fall. During his sophomore year, he played mainly as a wide receiver and was a weak safety. He got lots of playing time and at the end of the season, he felt like he was prepared to move onto varsity.
During his junior year, he signed up to continue his football journey. Donovan, as well as all the friends that he had made on the team, were now all on varsity. He suited up every game and was at the field every game with all of his closest friends.
When his 3rd season came to an end, Donovan started preparing for his final season. Now, Donovan has been playing almost every game this season on special teams.
“I was excited because I was finally able to play tackle football freshman year and that’s what influenced me to play. The team itself is what has been what’s keeping me playing,” Donovan said when being asked about his start to football.
Donovan started playing football in his freshman year of high school. And the people on the team have been what has called him back every following season.
This team has a bond like no other, and Donovan's time playing for this team can prove that. Playing football at O’Dea has given Donovan an experience, with him making lifelong friends, trying something new, and kept him busy.
