We all watch movies, shows or even go to concerts, but do you ever think about who is behind all of the special effects, or the camera, or even behind the computer that put everything together? Well, if you are interested in the production side of films and shows, then Mr. Kaden is the perfect teacher for you.

Mr. Kaden is the video production teacher at O'Dea. He has been teaching at O'Dea for two years and he has been in the video production scene since he graduated college. When Mr. Kaden was in college, he wasn’t in a film school nor was he studying film. He was into visual arts and studied it in college, but one day his friend offered him a job to be a Production Assistant at a concert. Overtime he got into more and more production jobs and he was eventually hired to MTV full-time for five years. Mr. Kaden worked many jobs in the film production side but his favorites were pilots for shows which are shows that are still in the test phase. Mr. Kaden said, "Working with creative folks that are trying to make a new show was really fun and exciting."
Video production is a really hard job that takes a lot in every single different job there is. Kaden says that the hardest part about working in video production is the hours. Sometimes you can't control when production is. Production days can be very long and go from early mornings to late nights and after the next day you do it all over again. Especially as a Production Assistant (PA) which is where everyone starts and they have to be the first one of set and the last one to leave.
Another big hard part of video production is burnout, which Mr. Kaden struggled with. He would sometimes work too many jobs at the same times and it would get overwhelming. Sometimes you will be working on an under-funded or independently produced project and those take a lot of work and you will often find yourself working long hours so you need to make sure you set healthy boundaries in every career to avoid burnout.
Mr. Kaden has a lot of experience in the whole video production scene and with all his knowledge he is teaching a class at O'Dea called Video Production. He plans to teach students the technical production process and the creative process too. Video Production is an art and in all art the artists must know the tools, which is what Mr. Kaden plans to teach. Once you know how to use the tools then you can let that carry you into your future.
