SEATTLE- The Seattle Prep and O’Dea basketball game ended with one team going home laughing and smiling, and then the other team going home in silence. With so much on the line, O’Dea’s basketball team was able to pull the victory out over Prep in a close tough game.
O’Dea started the game off slow as Prep was able to run away with a quick lead. Prep was able to score off mistakes made by O’Dea. O’Dea looked a little lost from the start as there were a couple of turnovers due to some miscommunication.
Although Prep was running away with a lead, O’Dea’s student section wasn’t backing down. Throughout the whole night, O’Dea’s student section was letting Prep have it.
Early in the game, O’Dea suffered an injury as Junior Braylon Webb went down. This was a key loss as Webb is one of O’Dea’s star players.
Nonetheless, this didn’t stop O’Dea from finding its rhythm and heating up. O’Dea was able to heat thanks to Sophomore Brian Webster’s 2 3’s. O’Dea also had a lot of help on offense from Senior center Malcolm Clark and Sophomore point guard Adonai Burkett.
Scoring on offense was key in O’Dea’s victory but all the scoring couldn’t have happened without the help from O’Dea’s defense. On the defensive side of things, junior Quincey Brown had 4 steals, leading the team in total steals.
Brown states, “The key to winning this game was locking up their best players on defense.”
Senior Brian Shannon also made a huge contribution to that as he showed some tight defense on anyone he guarded in the game. Clark with the cherry on top as he added to the defense with 2 blocks.
O’Dea was also able to get some easy points as Prep had some off-the-court issues.
O’Dea is still playing without the presence of Senior star point guard Noel Davis. Although not playing Davis still had a big impact on the team as he helped with preparing the team before the game. Even during the game, Davis was still able to help the team with some positive feedback and how to fix mistakes.
Davis states, “Even though I can’t be there for my guys on the court, I still got to make sure I’m doing my best to prepare them in any way I can help them with.”
O’Dea was able to keep up the tempo and run away with the lead, finishing the game 68-61 over Prep. O’Dea’s student section showed its happiness, ending the game and singing the O’Dea fight song.
